You are invited to become a Knight of Columbus
It is the largest organization of Catholic men in America over 800,000 members about 35% of this number are insurance members, the rest are associate members. The insurance solvency is 111.45 per cent. There are over 3000 K. of C. councils. There are 50,000 members in Ohio. Ottawa Council has 450 members, scattered mostly throughout Putnam County.
The K. of C. have spent several hundred thousand dollars in the Catholic Advertising program advertising in national magazines about our religion and offering free booklets and correspondence courses in the Catholic faith. As a result, 837,000 requests were made for Catholic literature, and 71,000 persons have enrolled for free Catholic instruction by mail. It has created much good will among non-Catholics and thousands of conversions have resulted. Ottawa Council spent several hundred dollars for Catholic advertising in Ottawa, Leipsic, Columbus Grove, and Continental weekly papers.
During World War II a Million Dollar Educational Fund was formed under which 382 sons or daughters of K. of C. members killed in World War II will receive a free Catholic college education.
The Knights of Columbus over the years have made many notable contributions to the Catholic Church.
In Ohio during the last three years, the Knights of Columbus have donated $185,000 to the Bishops of Ohio for carrying on youth work.
Ottawa Council meets twice a month on the first and third Thursdays. A program and lunch is usually arranged for the second meeting of the month. We have Communion Breakfasts in the spring and fall at various parishes in the county for which an excellent speaker is always procured.
For seven years we have sponsored a closed laymens retreat at the Jesuit Retreat House at Milford, Ohio. This affair is open to all men.
Any practical Catholic, eighteen years or over is invited to become a Knight of Columbus. If he is under 26 the applicant may apply for insurance. All popular forms with very reasonable rates are obtainable. Over 26 years of age, men are admitted either as associate or insurance members.

Our initiation fee of $10.00 (which includes four months council dues) is payable at the time of the First Degree Initiation. Council dues are $.75 per month --- $9.00 per year.
